Temperature of Laser Meltpool - niroop - 04-30-2013 04:00 PM

Hi,
I am using a Flir A615 camera to measure the temperature of melt pool in laser deposition process. The problem is that I don't know the exact emissivity of the metal(SS316,Ti6Al4V) which is being deposited, also the deposited metal has different emissivity values at different temperatures, so when the emissivity is set to a single value I cannot get the exact temperature reading. Can anyone help me how to measure the accurate temperatures from the IR camera?

Does the metal have a well defined and known freezing and melting temperature? If so then you can measure the emissivity with your camera as the material is melting to liquid state and freezing to solid state. I am assuming the emissivities are different between both states, but should stay relatively constant once that state is reached.
