I work in a battery manufactuing plant. We melt pure lead (Pb) to cast grid and cast terminal lugs. For the first time, our engineering wants some temperatures of specific processes. When the lead is molten, it is very shiny. I want to see the temp as it flows into the molds. Any idea how to find the emmisivity? I have no clue.

Shiny metals are tough to measure, and liquid shiny metals even tougher. I would measure the surface of the lead with a thermocouple and change emissivity in the camera to match the reading. But this is a tough application.

The final accuracy also depends on the camera waveband.
LW is not the best choice for liquid metals, and I would suggest shorter wavelengths.
